Seminar: Heegaard Branched Surfaces and Taut Foliations in (1,1) Knot Complements

Speaker: Qingfeng Lyu, Boston College

Abstract: The theory of constructing taut foliations from Heegaard splittings was pioneered by Sarah Rasmussen and developed by Tao Li using branched surfaces. We discuss how these ideas could be used to find taut foliations in (1,1) knot complements. In particular, we show that (1,1) non-L-space knots are persistently foliar.
