Seminar: Dichotomy Theorems for Closed Minimal Surfaces in Hyperbolic 3-Manifolds

Abstract: Minimal surfaces are critical points of the area functional. Like closed geodesics on a negatively curved surfaces, one expects abundance of closed minimal surfaces in hyperbolic 3-manifolds. I will present some Dichotomy results in hyperbolic 3-manifolds of the surface group. This is based on joint work with Coskunuzer, Lowe and Vargas-Pallet.
